1 Florida State vs 2 Auburn
All Time:13-4-1 Auburn
Last meeting: 1990 20-17 Auburn
After 32 bowls we have finally gotten to the end of a fantastic season and the end of the BCS era. In a game that pits the team of destiny Auburn Tigers against the unconquered Florida State Seminoles. The Tigers were able to get to this point on the back of Heisman Finalist Tre Mason and the wizardry of the Gus Malzhan offense. The Tigers boast one of the nations best running attacks with Dual threat QB Nick Marshall, The aforementioned Mason, the speedster Corey Grant, and the bruiser Cameron Artis Payne. Auburn has had some of the most memorable wins in college football history this year but those are in the past.
Florida State has been a wrecking ball all season long with outstanding play from their Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston this offense is one of the best in the nation. NFL level WR’s Kelvin Benjamin and Rashad Greene flank Jameis and they will look to attack a subpar Auburn defense. The Noles have boat raced all their previous opponents but this Auburn seems to have that extra something going for them. How will the long lay off effect both teams? How will a redshirt Freshman handle the pressure of being a Heisman winner in the National title game in such a long layoff.
Auburn Player to watch: Chris Davis. The senior CB has already given the Auburn faithful the Kick Six this year but he will have his toughest test Monday trying to cover one of these fantastic FSU WR. The Auburn defense has been bend and don’t break all season long but in this game they must take away the pass and try and force Jimbo Fisher and the Seminole Offense to stick to the run game. Davis will play a big part in that and will look to end his Auburn career with another great game.
Florida State player to watch: Mario Edwards. The FSU DLine will have a tough task trying to stop the prodigious Auburn rushing attack. If the Noles hope to slow down the rushing attack they will need to lean heavily on Edwards and hope that he can get the penetration that is needed to stop this offense.
Prediction: Auburn has the momentum and destiny on their side. Florida State has the Heisman winner and one of the best Offenses on theirs. It will be great to see how good this Florida state team actually is after not really being tested all season long. I think that with a month off Gus and Rhett Lashlee will make the necessary adjustments to counteract the FSU defenseand will be able to get rushing attack back to the runaway train it was against the Missouri Tigers. At the beginning of the season I picked Florida State to win the title and Jameis Winston to the Heisman but I have to go with the Tigers here to win 2 in 4 years and extend the SEC winning streak to close out the BCS era.
