2014 Orange Bowl Preview: Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Clemson Tigers

12 Clemson vs. 7 Ohio State

All Time: 1-0 Clemson
Last meeting: 17-15 Clemson ’76 Gator Bowl

In a matchup of teams that had their eyes on the crystal ball the Tiger will oppose the Buckeyes in the Orange Bowl. Clemson was riding high before their game against FSU but were run out of their own building by the Noles. Then they fell once again to their cross state rivals USC Gamecocks. Dabo Swinney hopes to have his Tigers ready for this one and not focusing on their last trip to the Orange bowl a 70-33 drubbing by West Virginia. In his last game Tajh Boyd looks to show his doubters that he is a big game QB and will look to erase his last performance in the Orange bowl from the minds of his doubters. Phenom Sammy Watkins will look to have one more great showing before leaving for the NFL. The defense looks forward to the tough test they will have.

Clemson Quarterback Tajh Boyd

The Ohio State Buckeyes were this close from the BCS title game but were unable to stop the Michigan State Spartans in the BIG 10 Championship game where they saw their winning streak snapped. Urban Meyer is no stranger to the BCS stage and will look to add an Orange Bowl title to his lengthy resume. Braxton Miller will look to electrify the nation with his rocket arm and great pocket movement. The Buckeyes have a great running back in Carlos Hyde and will look to ride him to a victory. Ohio State has a some tough games against Conference opponents this year and at times have played down to their opponents.

Clemson Player to watch: Vic Beasley. The one time top recruit will have his hands full with the dynamic duo of Miller and Hyde. Beasley will need to have an excellent game and live in the backfield to help disrupt this great offense

Ohio State Player to watch: Ryan Shazier. This Defensive standout will have a task trying to figure out and stop this Clemson O. He has had a great year and will continue it here in Orange Bowl.

“THE” Ohio State Buckeyes Coach Urban Meyer

Prediction: This game will come down to who has the ball last. I really have no faith in either Defensive unit. If either team can get a stop they will most likely win. The only thing I have less faith in than these defensive units is Tajh Boyd. He has had one “good” game his entire career against a top 25 opponent and I don’t see him having another against the Buckeyes. In the end the Running game of Miller and Hyde will be too much for Clemson Defense and the Buckeyes will win this one.

Final Score: 42-38 Ohio State wins
