SEC Football Preview 2013: Alabama Crimson Tide

fatbammerSchedule Breakdown: Disguised as a good schedule by strong out of conference opponent Virginia Tech, Alabama actually has one of the easiest schedules you could have in the SEC.  Notice you don’t see UGA, Florida or South Carolina from the SEC East on the schedule.  Coming off a nice warm up game with Virginia Tech, they will get an off week to prepare for “Johnny Football”.  Later in the season Alabama has another bye before they play LSU.  This schedule is a perfect blend of opponents with big names, yet perfectly placed bye weeks to make for easy navigation.

Bama schedule

tumblr_mg7sf6ngrj1r8zv7zo1_500Summary: Most teams replacing 8 players drafted amongst the top 160 players drafted would seemingly struggle but with the depth Coach Nick Saban has obtained, the replacement players are often just as talented than the prior years’ starters.  Alabama’s offense figures to continue roll straight out of the gate with familiar names like A.J. McCarron, T.J. Yeldon, Cyrus Kouandjio, and Amari Cooper.  However the defense contains many first year starters who may need some seasoning before they come into their own.  Lucky for the defense they return the leader from last year in C.J. Mosley. Unless Quarterback Logan Thomas reverts back to his 2013 preseason first round value, Virginia Tech will be a walk in the park and a good warm up for Texas A&M.  With a bye week before Texas A&M and revenge on their minds, Saban’s defense should be well prepared for anything Johnny football throws at them.  LSU seems to be the only other hurdle in the way of Alabama’s journey for 3 straight National Titles.
